VAWA
Check out this video and please, please...if you have the ability to contact a government agency, let them know how damaging the VAWA is. At least push for gender neutrality, please.

*Edit* Actually....it appears that it is to late for this round. As of today, October 5th, the VAWA has been passes unanimously in the senate. This just shows how blind our current government (and society) are to the travesty of domestic violence.

You might also be interested to know that police officers and members of the military (those most affected by VAWA handgun prohibition) are the most dangerous batterers. Police officers have a "fraternity" attitude and refuse to arrest each other for domestic violence or enforce orders of protection against each other. Wives and girlfriends are afraid to report because of the extremely high likelihood that the report will get back to their batterer and the police will offer no assistance.
If I were you, I would very seriously consider doing some more reading on domestic violence.
